Somehow Worse Than Ave Mujica - The Yume∞Mita Episode 4 Rant

I believe that Ave Mujica is the single worst piece of media to come out of Bushiroad, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks that. I've gone over my issues with it in-depth, so I won't rehash things here. What I will say is that Bushiroad seems to have learned nothing, because Yume Mita seems to be making a play at being even worse.

I had hope for Yume Mita episode 4. Viola had been set up as the show's major antagonist, something we haven't really had since CHU2 in Bandori S2. A few early reviews of the episode said that Viola was becoming an interesting and well-written villain.

I'm not sure what show they were watching, but clearly it was a different one than the one I watched.

Viola's character is, in a word, forced. Her motivations are shallow at best, bordering on non-existent. Her plans were so utterly transparent and poorly executed that they should have easily been spotted and thwarted by anyone with half a brain cell. She has so little charisma that it's a wonder that anyone was willing to put up with her as the leader of La La La La Girls, and it's equally baffling that anyone is putting up with her as the apparent leader of Fairy Bouquet.

Her most cardinal sin, however, is that she makes all the characters around her worse. Her existence makes Arale's backstory less engaging, and she makes Ritsu a less interesting character.

Put simply, Viola seems more like the writers just felt like they needed to shoehorn a villain into the show rather than a legitimately interesting antagonist.

Viola isn't even the only issue with the show. Arale's arc is moving at glacial speed and seems to just be repeating itself over and over again, which makes it difficult to stay engaged. Miyako's personality is all over the place, and Nonoka, while a joy to watch, is extremely flat and uninteresting for a supporting protagonist.

Not sure how I'm going to survive 9 more episodes of this or if I even want to bother.
